While we like to think of a saltwater swimming pool as all fun and games, having the right safety equipment for your backyard pool is also an absolute must. Utilizing a fence around your inground pool and tools such as floaties for young children are great safety practices to have in place. But do you know what takes the cake when your pool isn’t in use? A safety cover!

At The Pool Guyz, we offer industry-leading safety covers in Virginia Beach and Florida. We know that when you’re not using your pool, you’ll want anyone, whether it be a pet or a young child, to stay safe and avoid an accidental fall into your pool. Safety covers are designed to keep anyone and anything out of your swimming pool when you aren’t around to supervise.

There are two main safety cover options that we offer. Their functions and features vary from each other, so let’s take a look.

Automatic Safety Covers for Seasonal Use

Our impenetrable Coverstar® automatic safety covers give you peace of mind when your saltwater pool is open for the season. It has been manufactured and tested to meet strict standards that are used by many states to ensure swimming pools are safe when not in use, particularly for children under five years of age.

Here is what your automatic safety cover has been tested for.

  • Strength: Your cover is strong enough to hold a minimum of 485 lbs, or roughly the amount of a child and one to two adults working to get a child off the cover.
  • Closure: Your cover extends with a secure track closure so a child can’t be trapped between the pool cover and the outside of a pool.

When your automatic safety cover is installed, all it takes is the turn of a key or the flip of a switch to extend your cover into place. You can be confident that your pool is secure anytime the cover is in use.

If you have a fiberglass saltwater pool in Virginia Beach or Florida, we can get an automatic safety cover installed in an existing pool that was previously installed by us. Or if you have plans to get a new pool, we can install it right away with your pool build. Plus, we’re confident our automatic safety cover choices are the most attractive pool cover you’ve ever seen!

Solid and Mesh Safety Covers for Winter

Solid and mesh safety covers are the perfect choice for the off-season when your pool isn’t in frequent use. They are designed to protect your pool from the elements and your family from accidental entry. They are custom-made to fit the unique shape of your pool and any extra design features you may have, such as rock walls, waterfalls, slides, etc. As the name suggests, they are available in either solid vinyl or mesh material. Both solid and mesh safety covers are made with heavy-duty hardware, interlocked and double-overlapped seams, durable box stitching, and can be anchored in tight spaces when necessary.

A great plus of the solid safety cover is that it will block 100% of sunlight from your pool. This will add extra protection from potential UV ray damage. With the solid safety cover, you’ll have the option to allow extra rainwater to drain into your pool with a seamless drain or to have it pumped off your pool so no outside water gets in. Either option is totally safe for your pool. But if you choose the pump option, it may have the benefit of keeping your pool water cleaner during the off-season so that pool opening in spring is even easier.

An ownership feature of the mesh safety cover is that it comes in a lighter weight, so it’s easier to handle and maneuver during installation and removal of the cover. If you choose the mesh safety cover, all extra water will drain directly into your pool. Don’t let the term “mesh” fool you — they are just as durable and reliable as their solid sister.
